Apify Skill Validation 2026: Academy, Actors & Portfolio Proof
Apify does not offer formal certifications. You validate web scraping skills through Apify Academy course completion, published Actors, and portfolio projects. Hiring managers look for evidence—code, runs, and documented work.
What Apify Academy offers
Apify Academy is a free learning platform at docs.apify.com/academy. It includes:
- Getting started: Platform basics, inputs/outputs, first scrapes
- Web scraping with JavaScript and Python: Crawlee, Cheerio, Playwright
- API scraping: REST APIs, authentication
- Anti-scraping: Bypassing blocks, proxies, rate limits
- Expert scraping: Advanced patterns, deployment, optimization
Complete the courses and document your progress. Screenshots, a GitHub repo with notes, or a short write-up on your site are credible proof.
How to demonstrate expertise
| Method | What it proves | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Published Actor | You build, test, and ship scrapers | High |
| Academy completion | You understand platform and concepts | Medium |
| GitHub portfolio | You write clean, maintainable code | Medium |
| Udemy/course certs | You completed structured training | Low |
| Open-source contributions | You work with Crawlee, Scrapy, etc. | Variable |
No single credential replaces hands-on work. Combine Academy completion with at least one published Actor or public project.
Publishing an Actor
Publishing an Actor on the Apify Store is strong evidence. It shows you can:
- Design an input schema
- Handle proxies and anti-bot measures
- Store and format output
- Document usage
Link your Actor in your resume or portfolio. Include run counts and use cases.
Building a portfolio
- Pick 2–3 projects: Product monitor, SERP scraper, lead scraper
- Use TypeScript or Python: Matches most job postings
- Add README files: Explain problem, approach, and results
- Include sample output: Show real data, not just code
Host code on GitHub. Reference Academy courses and Apify docs in your write-ups.
Value for hiring and career
Employers care about: Can you build reliable scrapers? Can you handle blocks and scale? Published Actors and documented projects answer that better than a certificate. List your Actors, link to runs, and describe the technical choices you made.
When a formal certification exists
Apify has not announced a formal certification program as of 2026. If one launches, it will likely appear on academy.apify.com or the main Apify site. Until then, Academy completion plus published work is the best validation.
